As usual, you raise some great points.

It is the odd lot of the migrant (or the expat if shorter and less permanent in term) to often feel that they don't quite fit anywhere. One part of you remains connected to your place of birth, the other to your 'now' home. But there is a divide or split.

The experience of living elsewhere changes you. So in a very real sense you are different to those who remained in place. Over time your perspectives, tastes, attitudes and such will change. It is also possible that your attitudes have not changed, whilst those who remained at 'home' have. This 'drift' over time (one way or the other) can make it hard to return home and still fit in. But the same difference can apply in your 'new' home and you may alway be seen as the 'outsider', the 'migrant, the 'new comer'.

There are great joys in being in a new place. But also prices we pay.
