Every dyslexic is unique

Dyslexia can change over time

There are different definitions of dyslexia and neurodiverse conditions

Some Ideas to Try

Get a formal assessment done.

Build a support team, then teach your child how to build their own

If you are a family with two or more parents, learn to tag team

If you are a solo parent, the support team is even more important

Recognise your own issues

Creating more wins than losses

School grades don’t matter

Don’t panic

Never use the word disability around the child or allow others to

Recognise how tiring it is to be dyslexic

From as early as possible, start giving your child control

Listen to expert advice, but then do what your gut tells you

Shift the conversation to strengths

Sometimes great strengths can be very specific, and thus hard to find

Use inspiring examples that are relevant to your child’s interests

Let your child’s emerging interests lead the way

Build a partnership with your child
